Easy Bread Gulab Jamun Recipe
You can be miserable before you eat a Gulab jamun. You can be miserable after eating a Gulab jamun but you can never be miserable WHILE you’re eating a Gulab jamun. By now, you must have realised how much I love this Indian dessert (or sweet). I cooked this delicious dish and thought I’d share it with my fellow food lovers here!
INGREDIENTS
FOR SUGAR SYRUP:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3 cardamom, powdered
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
FOR BREAD GULAB JAMUN:
- 4 slices bread, white bread
- 4 tbsp full cream milk powder
- 1 tbsp cream
- 3-4 tbsp milk, warm
- ghee / oil for deep frying
PREPARATION
HOW TO MAKE THE SUGAR SYRUP RECIPE:-
- Firstly, in a wide pan take 1 cup of sugar, add 1 cup of water and boil.
- Then simmer for 4 minutes till the sugar syrup turns slightly sticky i.e string consistency.
- Add cardamom powder or rose water for the fragrance (Optional).
- Also add lemon juice to avoid crystallization.
- Cover, keep aside and shift to the next preparation.
HOW TO MAKE THE BREAD GULAB JAMUN RECIPE:
Time needed: 30 minutes
Making the bread gulab jamun recipe can be broken down into these 5 steps.
- Blend Bread to Powder
Firstly, after cutting off the edges of the bread slices, blend to powder-like breadcrumbs.
- Kneed the Dough and Keep aside for 5 mins
Add 3-4 tbsp of milk powder and a tbsp of cream. Kneed the bread dough a little. After that, add warm milk little by little till you knead it to a smooth and soft dough.
- Make small balls from the dough
After greasing the hands, make tiny balls from the dought. Make it smaller than your desired size because as you fry it, it becomes fluffier. Cover, keep aside and shift to the next preparation.
- Fry the small balls of dough
Heat the oil or ghee on low flame to medium flame and when it is moderately hot, fry the jamuns. Fry the balls on low flame till they turn golden brown.
- Soak In Syrup & Cook
Immediately after the previous step, drop the hot jamuns into hot sugar syrup. Boil the sugar syrup for a minute after you add fried jamuns.
- Leave to cool
Keep aside for some time, atleast half an hour.
Now, the soft and sweet gulab jamuns have doubled in size. - Serve & Enjoy!
Serve warm with ice cream. You can also serve it cold after refrigeration, garnished with finely sliced nuts.
